Gum Disease

  • The effects of gum disease can lower the gumline. This will in turn expose the dentine of the root which contains the tubules leading directly to the nerve. Hot, cold & sometimes sweet foods can cause pain. A special paste is available that can be applied to provide some relief from this condition

    Brushing (i)

  • Use small circular movements with the brush held at 45 degrees to the tooth. Move systematically around the mouth. Remember to clean the inside surfaces and the biting surfaces. Dont forget behind the top and bottom teeth. A good technique will take 2 minutes.

    Brushing (ii)

  • Angle the bristles at 45∫ to the gum line. There's no need to scrub - hold the brush in position and after a few seconds sweep the bristles away from the gum. Repeat around the outer and inner surfaces of all teeth. Particularly effective inter-dentally. The whole procedure should take about 2 minutes.

    Root Treatment

  • Sometimes a tooth needs a root treatment. This requires the exposure of the root system of the tooth then the removal of the nerves and material within the root. A special material is now available which is placed into the tooth roots. The material hardens and is then trimmed. The tooth can then be filled. Over time, this special material expands within the root which prevents any bacteria from continuing to decay the tooth.

    Veneer

  • Angle the bristles at 45∫ to the gum line. There's no need to scrub - hold the brush in position and after a few seconds sweep the bristles away from the gum. Repeat around the outer and inner surfaces of all teeth. Particularly effective inter-dentally. The whole procedure should take about 2 minutes.

    Posterior Crown

    Amalgam/Composite

  • Amalgam fillings in the lower jaw can often be seen when we talk or laugh. But amalgam fillings can also sometimes be seen in the upper jaw. These can be unsightly and can also discolour the tooth. Composite (White) fillings are available to improve this.

    Whitening

  • One of the methods for whitening teeth uses a 'tray'. First of all, impressions are taken from which a study model is made. This is painted with a special material which increases the thickness of the tooth area. When the tray is prepared, a small pocket is produced.

    Porcelain Onlay

  • Depending on the extent of the repair required sometimes the full top surface of the tooth is removed. A Full Onlay is then produced to replace the biting surface.

    Anterior Crown

  • The damaged tooth is prepared. A crown with a metal base and porcelain coating is made. The crown is fixed in place. Under certain lighting, the metal base can sometimes be seen.

    Post and Core

  • A large tooth may need to be root- treated and crowned. If there is insufficient tooth left to secure the crown the root canals can be filled with fibre bridge material. This is hardened with a bright light then placed back in position. The other root canals are filled in the same way. As the Composite material is built up, a net is added to increase strength. The net is pushed into the Composite and more material added The Composite is prepared to receive the new crown. The new crown is fitted.

    Missing Teeth

  • When a tooth is missing, there are usually a number of solutions available. You could have a false tooth made and fitted to a plate. Alternatively a Bridge can be fitted to an adjacent tooth. Or you could have an Implant which doesn't affect the adjacent teeth.

    Bridge

  • Sometimes teeth are lost. The adjacent teeth are prepared. A Bridge is made which exactly matchs the space and is fitted across the gap.

    Implant

  • A missing front tooth. A hole is prepared in the jaw bone in stages. An Implant is fitted and a healing cap inserted. When the Implant has healed, the healing cap is exposed and an abutment insrted. A crown is then fited to the abutment.

    Denture

  • When a number of teeth are missing, there are various options available. You may choose to have a denture. But over time, your gums will recede and the denture may not fit as well. You could choose to have Implants to secure the denture. One way is a small number of Implants with a bar and magnets to hold the denture ... ... another is a small number of Implants to which the denture is secured. ...
